Altered Clock

Hello Friends!! Welcome to the SUMMER BLOG HOP between UmWowStudio and Susan K Weckesser Inc. We'll be sharing gorgeous bright and shining inspiration with you from both teams all week long. Be sure to keep visiting, hopping and commenting to enter to win one of TWO prize packages. Each day is chock full of goodness and we don't want you to miss a thing.

Hi everyone Steph Ackerman here today with a fun little altered clock.   I used some awesome Susan K Weckesser papers from the Live In Color Collection and, as we are partnering with UmWow Studio this month, I used some awesome chipboard elements.

I found this clock recently in my local craft store. Because it was missing some pieces, I was able to get it on clearance and modify it as I wanted!

I first painted the wood base with Art Anthology's Copper paint, then used some of Susan K Weckesser's Live in Color papers to cover the front and sides of the clock.  I wanted a little of the painted wood to show, so I cut the papers slightly smaller than the wood panels.

I used Mod Podge to adhere the papers and, because the papers are a good strong quality, I was able to adhere the papers without bubbles.

The floral paper was perfect to adhere along the sides of the clock.  I love how the flowers appear to be growing up the sides.

An assortment of flowers was added to the bottom corner of the clock with brads and glue dots.

I used some fun chipboard elements from Umwow Studio - a Swallow which I inked and then stamped with a phrase from Grandma's Needlepoint stamp set  and several banners which I inked and added amongst the flowers.

A close up of the flower cluster.

I love how it turned out and wish I had a few more to alter!

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy Birthday Gift set

Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today and I am thrilled to be the guest designer this month for Susan K. Weckesser.

I received  the Live in Color Collection.  This is a gorgeous collection of whimsical images and beautiful colors and knew they'd be perfect for a gift ensemble.

The gift bag was originally pink and was somewhat faded by the sun.  Using the new ColorBox  Chalk Inks  in Harvest and Splash, I rubbed the ink pads across the gift bag, mixing the colors.  The colors of the inks coordinated really well with these papers.

I cut the Beautiful Daydreams paper to fit the gift bag, matting it with gray cardstock.  Then I fussy cut a cloud and the kite, adding them to the gift bag with foam adhesives for dimension.

Not wanting to waste any papers I had left, I created a coordinating  birthday card with the remaining paper and stamped "Happy Birthday" on a die cut oval I had left over from my previous birdhouse project.  I then matted it on several other dies before adding it to the card.

Thank you to Susan K. Weckesser, Inc. for giving me the opportunity to be a guest designer this month.  And thank you for stopping by today.

Christmas Love Stocking and a Hand-Made Christmas Contest!

Hi!  Susie here and I am so excited to be joining the Susan K. Weckesser DT just in time for the
We are celebrating a Hand-Made Christmas and my fun and easy-to-create project today is...

...a Christmas Stocking!

I started working on the cuff of the Canvas Corp. stocking, applying large alpha stickers from Fancy Pants, then brushing on  a coat of gesso.

Once the gesso dried, I removed the letter "O" sticker and sprayed with Ferrari Red Chalkboard Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.I used a paintbrush to make sure the "O" was really saturated.

When that dried, I removed the remaining stickers to reveal the canvas below. I used a black pen to outline the letters and fashioned a bow with chevron striped ribbon from May Arts.

I used the same technique to create most of the lettering on the body of the stocking - I just used smaller stickers!  Later on, I also outlined these smaller letters with a black pen.
The word "home" was stamped using Susan K. Weckesser's Little Haven stamp set from Unity.

I stamped  the large house, also from the Little Haven set, and heat embossed with white embossing powder before "painting" it with watered down Distress Ink.
I wanted it to be a very soft image that faded into the background.  The door of the house was painted with the watered down Ferrari Red Chalkboard Spray.

The last thing I added was the snow man from the One of a Kind Winter set from Unity.
He was stamped with black ink and colored a little more boldly so that he appears very much in the foreground.  Now the stocking is ready to be filled with another hand-made treat - maybe Christmas cookies?!

Hand-made Christmas- My Wish Book

Hi Christmas Lovers out there!

Keri here and I am so excited that my first blog post as an All-Star Design Team member is for the Christmas Love Campaign.

This past weekend I was honored to host a baby shower for my dear friend, Deana.

While I was planning her shower, she would occasionally send me pictures from Pinterest that she loved.

One thing she sent me was this:

She loved the idea that her guest would be able to share their hopes and dreams for Baby Olivia Grace, but I wanted to find a way to make it a true keepsake, instead of just a bunch of pieces of paper.

Here is what I came up with:

I started with a black paper mache book from Hobby Lobby:

Core'dinations White wash collection was perfect to add a texture to the spine of book. I ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot using my Stampin' Up Honeycomb Embossing folder. To bring out the green, I then sanded it with Core'dinations Sand it Gadget (their Dust Buddy was such a life saver to pick up the paper dust!) My label was made using a Spellbinder's Die from Fancy Pants paper and stickers.

Here are some close-ups:

For the front, I covered it with some paper from Fancy Pant's Design's Collecting Moments Collections. I love that the collection came with TONS of stickers and 2 colors of corrugated cardboard (navy and grey.) The grey was perfect to give my book the illusion of "pages", while the navy gave fun texture to my leaves. These went perfect with my Canvas Corp white corrugated cardboard and sage and ivory patterned paper  and May Art gold ribbon to add more fun and color to my leaves.

I hand rolled flowers from my Fancy Pants paper to cluster around my title (Using Fancy Pants Alpha stickers) and snuggled a little house stamped with Susan's stamps for Unity Stamp company in with it. All of this was layered on top of a burlap tag from Canvas Corp.

I added sparkle to the whole thing by splattering and lightly painting my flowers with Tattered  Angels Glam in Golden Goddess and Old Pages and by filling in my stamped clouds and flowers (again from Susan's stamps for Unity) with Tattered Angels Glaze.

So...I bet you're wondering where the "hopes" come in right? Just untie the May Arts Ribbon on the side and....

Here is a close-up of each side:

I rolled a flower from a thick May Arts gold ribbon and layered Fancy Pants Stickers and a stamped sentiment from Susan on top of an ultra-sound picture of Baby Olivia.

The album is hanging from (2) 7Gypsies hooks that I hot glued to the inside top:

(Here's an "inside" cheat...I couldn't find 4x6 page protectors that I needed, so I took page protectors from Bo Bunny's Misc Me collection that had 2-4x6 slots and cut them apart. I punched new holes with my Crop-a-dile to accommodate my jump rings.)

The inside of the album looks like this:

I was very excited to present this gift to my friend at her shower. I think it will be a perfect edition to the nursery and will be a great keepsake for Baby Olivia for years to come.

Thanks for stopping by and joining us for Susan's Christmas Love Campaign during our Hand-Made Christmas.  I hope you will join us.

Simple Bag

Hello, Allie here to share a little project I created using the Celebration of Simple stamp set designed by Susan for Unity Stamp Company.

I had some dyed fabric scraps left over from a recent project and I thought it would be fun to make a simple bag. I love to have bags and boxes on hand, because I'm always getting a simple little something for a friend.

So, this project is truly a Celebration of Simple!

I stamped the pennants on to scraps and cut them out with pinking shears, then sewed the top of each pennant to a square of fabric that I had hemmed at the top. I stamped the sentiment on the same piece. I then sewed two squares together (back to back) and turned them right side out.

I thought it was a little plain, so I added some fun buttons at the top with embroidery thread.

Supplies:

  • Fabric - Moda
  • Buttons - Buttons Galore
  • Stamps - Susan K Weckesser for Unity
  • Ink - Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts "Stazon" Inks
  • Embroidery Thread and Sewing Thread - Coats & Clark
  • Dye - Rit Dye
  • Shears - Fiskars

Now, I have a fun little bag for gift giving. It's all about the presentation, right? What would you use a fun little bag for?

Thanks for joining me, I've really enjoyed guest designing for Susan and friends!
