Layouts for special people

So glad you came back to join us for our Susan K Weckesser & Want2Scrap Blog Hop.
Hey there artsy peoples - Rita Barakat here! Did you know this Sept 8th is grandparents day?
The elementary schools here in Texas declared it grandparents week so I thought
it would be appropriate to share this layout with baby girl and her Abuela (grandmother).
This week Susan K. Weckessor and Want to Scrap have teamed up! Did you know that in addition to chipboard pieces they also make cute little metal embellishments! See that little birdcage with the heart? Yep, Want to Scrap!
Here is a chipboard piece from Want to Scrap.
I colored it with Gelatos to match Susan K. Weckesser
whimsical papers! Sweet little hearts right?
Well this might be a good time to do a grandparent layout!
Happy scrapping!

DIY decorative cans- a fresh start!

Hey there Rita Barakat here! And if you are like me kids are back in school! Yay!
Back to school is just like New Years- a fresh start!
Time to re-group, re organize and maybe set some goals!
Of course having pretty things around to help with those goals
is always a bonus!
Today I decorated this sweet little can with Susan K Weckesser whimisical paper!
A little twine and burlap added the finishing touches!
Around here we save anything that I (or the kids) could use as a craft, this can is
the perfect size! I have been saving these and I am thinking how
cute would it be to have a bunch of these line up in a row? I saw that quote and
thought that would be perfect-
A vision is not just a picture of what could be;
it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to
become something more.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter
Not just for the can (LOL) but for life, a fresh start, a new year!
Today is a great day to start over! Or keep working towards those goals!
Have a wonderful first day!

Change your mood

Hey they arsty peoples, Rita Barakat here! Today is a good day!
And if it's not find or create something lovely to look at.
Something that can change your mood.
Because time wasted is time spent brooding, worrying or miserable.
I created this cheery piece by stamping a heart and sentiment on burlap.
The frame was wood and I painted it to match my piece.
So what will you do today?
Find something lovely to look at?
Or create something that gives you a little peace?

Creating...just because

Hey sweet bloggers! Rita Barakat here with a peek at an art journal
page I am working on.
Using lots of stamps and PITT pens.
Not really sure  where I am going with this one but I did have
fun stamping all the images around her. Sometimes
I just paint, to paint. Do you do that?
She kinda reminds me of the Mona Lisa! LOL!
Its fun just to create and see where it takes you!

Send it with love...

Hey sweet friends Rita Barakat here with a friendly idea to make someones day!
You will need a little packing tape, gesso, staz on ink, paint brush,
paper towels, water, your favorite stamps and some paint.
Use a non stick surface or glass and place some tape down.
Wet a paper towel and have it nearby. Gesso areas big enough to fit your stamp.
It's hard to see but in between the gesso spots I stamped a saying on the tape
with staz on ink.

Before the gesso dries take your clean stamp and stamp the area
- you are lifting the gesso off the tape. Wipe clean after each stamp-
I keep a wet paper towel nearby and stamp that. Dont let the gesso dry on your stamp!
Obviously you can tell that this is my favorite stamp from
 Susan K. Weckesser/Unity stamps-"Sing your song".
Then I painted my image! Easy! And it makes for really cute
"new and improved" packaging tape!
How cute would it be to recieve a goody in the mail with this tape?

Making someones day

Hello crafters! Rita Barakat here today!
In the business of life we all are still creating, so why not take the time
to make a few cards to make someones day?
It is just as easy to make multiple cards at the same time and then you always have something ready and personal for a friend.
I made these sweet cardson watercolor paper,
stamping and embossing with Susan K Weckessor and Unity stamps,
coloring them with Faber-Castell Aquarelles (watercolor pencils).
Then I cut and attached them to heavy pattern paper (DCWV) to make my cards.
Why not make some today and brighten one else day?

Lifes unexcpected moments...

Hello artsy crafters, Rita Barakat here!
Don't you love when you capture life's unexpected moments?
I was thinking I was going to get this beautiful shot of my kids petting
a horse, so I sent them up there and they were like ..."hey mom"...
Totally nervous of the horses, except baby girl who is absolutely fearless of everything! LOL
It wasn't the shot I intended but it still makes for a good layout! LOL!
 About the LO:
I made these sweet little tags first with Susan  K Weckesser papers
cutting out some of the pieces and popping them up.
Adding a little painted chipboard, bling and ribbon trim.
Then I added them to the layout!
SO even if the pictures don't come out exactly
how you wanted them too you can still scrap about it!

Textures and stamping!

Hey there bloggers Rita Barakat  here with a different
technique you can use with your Susan K. Weckesser/Unity stamps!
I used the Sing your song stamp, here is a close up ...

Spread Modeling paste.
Stamp the wet modeling paste,
clean your stamp with water right away!
I keep a spray mister and paper towels handy.
Allow to dry completely!
Don't you just love that cute little bird? Here is the finished layout!

Step by step- Mixed media layout

Hey there bloggers Rita Barakat here with a mixed media layout!
It's a scrap-lift from  Misty Russell -
it was gorgeous so I had to copy lift it!
I don't know how she went about hers but here's how I made mine.

First I started with a foil embossed paper ( DCWV )
Added some texture with modeling paste
and a stencil (Artistcellar Jill K. Berry-Romans)

After it was dry I added some color with Dylusions Ink spray.

Then I cut up some flags and sprayed some of those.
Added them onto my page, mxing in pattern paper (Susan K Weckeser) cut flags,
overlapping each other with some heavy gel medium.
Sprayed a ton of flowers to match.
And added a little text- Oh yeah- the pic on the left
was from our honeymoon way back when and the pic
on the right is last year. Which reminds me - we need to take a  new photo!
And I need to scrap-lift more often, that was fun!

Bloom where you are planted

Hey there bloggers! Rita Barakat here today with a fun project!
I used Susan K.Weckessor's whimsical paper line
and her stamp, The Happy Homestead form Unity.
Some close ups...

The cute little house was stamped, embossed and then colored with Gelatos.
I cut the letters out from one of the papers.
Of course that bird id so stinking cute, I had to give her a little sparkle!

I got the textured letter background by adding molding paste and a stencil.
I painted the background with Gelatos.
The piece is mounted on clear acrylic...
I dont know why- but this piece makes me happy, i hope it makes you happy too!
