I don't know what made me think of this card idea. I learned it over 10 years ago at my local scrapbook store that closed 7 years ago *tear*.
I got a lovely surprise in the mail this week, the new stamps from Susan K. Weckesser *thank you*. The Garden {Whatnot} collection is a set of 3 tag stamps. Super cute!! I couldn't wait to use them!! But I wanted to do something different, something special with them. And this idea came back to me...
It starts off as a card that is flat so it can be mailed (I know I have 3D embellishments on it, but pretend it is flat).
But when you pull the tag, it turns into a stand for your tag! Isn't that fun???
To start, I made my tag. I used Ranger Distress Inks *Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed and Frayed Burlap* and inked a tag background with the yellows and the outside with the brown. Then I inked the stamp with brown except for the branches. I colored them on the stamp with a marker and stamped it on the background.
I cut a piece of white Core'dinations cardstock and scored it. The measurements are on the picture.
I covered the sections with green Core'dinations cardstock and Susan K. Weckesser's "Live In Color" paper. After attaching them, I cut a slit in the middle of the sections for my tag to fit through.
I layered my tag with 2 pieces of cardstock and I diecut some branches that looked like the branches on the tag. I added glitter, a button and some pearls from Kaisercraft to finish it off. I used more yellow ink on the white areas on the card. See how the tag just slips right in?
Now for the tricky part. Flip your card and tag over. Add double sided tape to the 2 ends *I showed you where in the photo*. The tag sticks to one end of the card and then you stick the two ends to each other and it will make a box. Don't forget to embellish your "Card/Box" too! I used ribbon, flowers, pearls and a diecut.
So the card comes to you like this, and when you pull the tag, it turns into a tag with a stand! I still think this is very clever! But I am easily amused :)
Ta-da! Like magic!!
Make something magical today!!
