Make Autumn a little brighter

I love Autumn. It's not too hot and not too cold and there's no pollen to make me sneeze. However the evenings are getting darker a little earlier so in just a few hours I decorated an empty baby food jar and made something that is pretty and useful. I just can't seem to be able to throw away jars and tins you never know when they can come in handy and a whole collection of these would look delightful.
I started off by thoroughly cleaning the jar and removing the label. I then painted the outside with gesso and a couple of layers of a neutral coloured acrylic paint. Whilst the paint was drying I stamped the charming Tumbleweed Houses stamps on white card. Coloured and cut out including window details. The colours I chose the houses I also splattered over the jar.
When the paint and splats were dry I decided where to put my house and scrapped the paint away from underneath allowing light to shine through the jar. A little twine around the top finished it off.
I added the clouds and sun and used some glitter to make the sun sparkle. It was important to me that this was pretty during daylight too.
In the evenings I put a tea light candle inside and the whole thing just comes alive.
Every time I look at it I smile and as it gets darker and darker it becomes more dramatic.
I hope you make some tea light holders to make your Autumn brighter I really enjoyed making this and I hope you do too.
These are the stamps I used and you can find them here

Wishing you a lovely day.

  1. How amazing that it goes from being so bright and cheery to looking like there is a family inside with the lights on and then the lights almost go white - like they closed their blinds and said goodnight. What a fabulous little creation j
