Woodland Gnome Hideaway

     Mixed Media Mania!  I love mixed media and I love to recycle in my art.  Hi!  This is Joyce Shaulis here today to show you how to make a cute gnome woodland hideaway using an ostrich egg shell and Susan's fabulous mini POP inks and her adorable gnome stamp set. 

To begin, I used the mini POP ink from Clearsnap, in Mystery and Susan's co-branded stamp set,
What's up Gnomey?  I stamped out multiple pieces on white cardstock.

For the background of the hideaway scene, I smudged Ice ink on a half of sheet of rice paper.  I then smudged Sky over top of the Ice.  On the other half of the rice paper, I smudged Fresh ink and then Cocoa on top of that.  Neutral or white tissue paper could be used as well if no rice paper is available.

 

 

I then used the mini POP inks like watercolors.  I pressed the ink pad onto a foam palette and then I was able to paint with a watercolor brush.  For this project, I used Ice, Sky, Fresh, Cocoa, Mystery, and Shimmer. 

  

Next, I brushed Decou-Page on the inside of the ostrich egg and smoothed out the inked rice paper.  I overlapped to cover all areas.  Wrinkles give a nice textured affect.  I then brushed overtop the adhered paper with more Decou-Page.

 

 

Using the back side of the "Live in Color" scrapbook paper, I cut small pieces in geometric shapes approximately 3/4" x 1/2".  I used modeling paste and a palette knife to smear small sections of paste and then I directly adhered the cut paper pieces.  I applied the paste about 1/8" thick or less.  I covered the whole exterior of the egg with the paper mosaic.  I allowed it to dry overnight, then I coated each paper piece with the Decou-Page.  I let this dry and then I sprayed the whole exterior and interior with a matte acrylic spray. 

  

 

 

I cut out all the gnome stamped and painted pieces.  I edged them all with the Mystery ink.  Then with hot glue, I glued wood picks to the back of all the pieces for stiffness, allowing about 1/4" of the pick to stick out from the bottom. 

  



 

 

I stained three wood balls with Ice, to be used as feet for the egg.  I adhered the balls to the bottom of the egg with modeling paste.    

 



  

 

 

With natural items like bark, wood, alder cones, acorns, I started hot gluing them inside the scene working from the back to the front. 

  











 

  

I continued to decorate the woodland hideaway, adding natural pieces and putting in my gnome.  I used reindeer moss and glued all around the edge of the egg, adding acorns and the painted leaves. 

 

 

 

I glued in the painted mushrooms and flowers.  I then embellished with tiny dried straw flowers.

Going wild art tag with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my second August post made for Susan K. Weckesser blog.
This time I made a small tutorial for this lovely easy to make tag and it's just great technique for all of us who are not coloring artists.
So here is my tutorial for you:

1. Use Susan K.Weckesser's Unity The Garden Whatnot collection  tag (one of three) and stamp the image over the white cardstock with Susan's ColorBox Color Pop mini Mystery black ink.

2. Stamp the second tag from the very same Unity stamp set with the same ink and punch the 2'' circle with a circle punch (or use a die to die cut the circle).

3. Ink the stamped tag and the punched circle with Susan's ColorBox Color Pop mini inks in Ice and Fresh colors as shown. You can wipe the ink if it's too intensive.

4.Hand cut the basic tag from gold cardstock and add the second tag layer using Susan's Live in Color (backside) cardstock. Ink the patterned cardstock edges with ColorBox Color Pop mini ink in Shimmer (gold).

5. Stamp the owl image from Susan's Going Wild new released stamp set with Shimmer ink and heat emboss it with clear embossing powder. Hand cut the image and ink inside with a light layer of Cocoa Color Pop mini ink.

Stamp the sentiment with the same set and the same Shimmer ink; heat emboss the sentiment with clear powder. Hand cut the sentiment and ink with a light layer of Ice  ink and ink the edges with gold ink.

Arrange the tag as shown. Add a small yellow feather and a lace ribbon on the top of your tag.

Unicorns and Glitter!

Not my usual style, but I have to admit I love this whimsical little Unicorns and Rainbows stamp set. It's just packed with adorable little elements!

The challenge this month for the CT is journal pages. I have a couple of journals - one is A5 but I also have a teeny weeny little one I got in Jo-Ann's last time I was in the States. I love the size of this because it's quick to create and also I can take it with me when I travel.

Here's how I made it:

1) Coat the page with gesso and when dry stencil the raindrops with modelling paste.

2) When the paste is dry, spray inks (I used two colours) and tilt the page to let them drip down. Dry with a heat tool. Repeat if desired.

3) Replace the stencil over the modelling paste and ink through with Colorbox Ice ink to tint the raindrops.

4) Colour and cut out the stamped images and glue in place. Add some touches of glitter to the stamping and some doodles to the page to finish.

Live, Love and Create with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to me second July inspiration made with Susan K. Weckesser products for her blog.
This month of July were all were inspired by Home Sweet Home things and this 3d small display is my home inspiration.
I have those small chipboard houses from Tando Creative UK for ages and never had a chance to use them. So here is my chance to use Susan K. Weckesser products together with those houses and I made a small tutorial for you all to share:
1. Paint the chipboard houses with white acrylic paint and let them  dry.

2.Use Susan K. Weskesser Color Box mini Pop inks in three colors to color over the white paint.
 I used Ice,Fresh and Sky color of those inks.But as I wanted the colors to be light and mute I just wiped  the colors with wet baby wipe.

3. Using Susan's Doodle stencil I made the lines with texture paste over the each chipboard roof shape and after it was dry I painted them with here mini Pop ink in Kiss color.

Cover the  chipboard base  with Live in color cardstock (I used the backside of it ) and distress the edges a bit with a sand paper. 

4. Stamp Celebrate the small things saying over the same cardstock with Celebration of Simple Susan's and Untiy co- branded stamp. Glue the stamped saying as shown over the base.

5. Make the " wooden" sign with faux wood (gesso, texture paste, old tooth brush and Susan's mini Pop Cocoa ink. The cut the parts to make this triple arrows sign and  add the Live, Love and Create words that were cut out from Susan's Live in Color Tags cardstock.

Paint the small chipboard windows and doors from the chipboard set with white paint and glue them over the finished houses. 

And here is my little 3d display on my  vintage findings shelf!

Trash to Treasure

Hello it's Samantha today with a pretty and practical recycling project :)

I just can't bear to throw  away old tins and jars so they usually get decorated and used as something completely different. Susan's house stamps are PERFECT for this!

 I measured my tin from top to bottom of the area I wanted to cover and then measured the diameter and cut a piece of white card to size. I then stamped the designs using silver embossing powder as I wanted something a little different to usual black outlines.

I coloured using my Derwent watercolour pencils and adhered to my tin. String wrapped tightly around keeps it in place whilst the glue is drying!

When I removed the string it I added some flowers and sequin stars a word stamp and it looks like this:

Here it is being used on my desk. The tin next to it has also been decorated now too!!

Much better than throwing them in the trash!! It would make a great plant pot too!

If Friends Were Flowers

Hello crafty friends. 

It's Samantha here with my first February make and it's a card for a friend :)

My card is ATC sized which is 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches. So it's quite small but it say's so much. 

Inside it says 'I'd pick you'.

I started this sweet card by die cutting some circle confetti from white card and gluing in diagonal corners. When that glue was dry I used some of my favourite colours and painted the background. To give the background more layers I stenciled some white circles and coordinating flowers. I then stamped the flower directly on the card and on a separate piece of white card as shown...

By stamping on the card I could then go around the outline with a charcoal pencil. This makes the flower 'pop' a little from the colourful background. I coloured the flower using Prismacolor pencils.

I stamped the text using a random alphabet stamp set. We all have those right?

For the flowers I used the Journal Doodles with a Heart stamp set which can be found right here.

Bunny Loves you!

Hi everyone!!

Noe here on one of my favorite months of the year, not only because it´s my birthday month, but because is the month of LOVE!!! And precisely that is theme of the month! Here is my card:

Love this new Susan K.Weckesser Set Stamp... It´s sooo cute and sweet!!

I made my background using other stamps sets from Susan, specifically "Love ya Whole Bunches" and "Grunge Fun" that I stamped on blue background... the frame is painted with a maroon ink and I added some details with the Doodle Stencil.

I show a close up of the card ... I have decided to use a Shaker format as they are much more fun and interactive!
