Flowerpot Mixed Media Layout

Hello friends!  Happy Thursday.  It's Lee-Anne here and today I am sharing a mixed media layout with Susan's stencils and papers. Since it is now Spring here in Canada, I can't help but think about gardening and all the flowers that are popping up such as tulips and daffodils.

My definition of mixed media is lots of layers using paints, inks, stencils, sprays, stamps, flowers, fibers, papers to create texture and dimension.  For my layout below, I used lots of different mediums such as paint, sprays, ink, modelling paste and glitter.

For this layout,  I created with Susan K. Weckesser's Live In Color Collection.  First I fussy cut some flowers and the title "Live In Full Color" as well as drew freehand and cut a flower pot.

 I then ran the flowerpot through my embossing machine with a weaved basket embossing folder to give it more texture and dimension then inked it with some distress ink.

Next I took some modelling paste and a brick stencil and added it the paper as shown. I felt that it  needed some color so I used a paint dabber in a beige color and dabbed the bricks.  When the brick background was completely dry,  I added some paint splats in red and yellow with my acrylic paint dabbers.

I adhered the stencilled paper to the kraft background and then added my flowers and flowerpot, which I gave more depth by adding some pop dots.  I thought the flowers needed something so I added some Liquid Glass and some yellow Stickles to the center of the red flower and when they were dry, I outlined with a fine black pen.  Finally I used Susan's stencil and added some "grass" with a green paint dabber and and around the top right and bottom left with a white paint dabber.

Live To Create, Create To Live Art Mixed Media

Hello friends!  It's Lee-Anne here today and I would like to share a simple mixed media layout that I created with Susan K. Weckesser's beautiful Live In Color Collection.

 I love color and Susan's Live In Color Collection is so pretty and it makes me hope for Spring.  It's so easy to create mixed media art with because it already looks that way.

For this piece this is the process I used to create this layout:

I took a 12X12 piece of white card stock.
I used some Tim Holtz Distress Paints and painted the sky and grass.  Then I used some Ranger Paint Dabbers to paint the sun and clouds.
Next I fussy cut the house and title out of Susan's Live In Color Paper Collection.
I then took Susan's stencil and some modelling paste and went around the edge of the background and then I doodled and doodled with a black archival pen.
For the flowers I "painted" with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine Mists
and then I took a piece of Crack Tape/drywall tape and "stencilled" with some modelling paste in the clouds to give them more dimension and "fluffiness".
The mountains are nearby so  I thought I would make it realistic and I used Susan's stencil and modelling paste to create some "peaks".
Finally I adhered some sequins to give more texture and dimension and then my journaling which I cut from Susan's papers.

Tickled Pink

When I saw the papers that Susan K. Weckesser designed I fell in love with them. Literately I saw the heart design on her papers and thought it would be perfect for a Love/Valentines Day card.

I went for mostly pink in this card, it really helps tie everything together, plus with it being a Valentines Day/Love card pink was just perfect.  I added in patterned and corrugated papers from Fancy Pants, they worked perfectly.  Covered parts of the papers with Snow Tex to give it texture, waited until it dried and then sprayed it with some pink Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.  Added in some bling, chipboard, flowers, and some twine from May Arts Ribbon and poof you have a pink card!

I cut out the top right section of the "Live in Color Tags" paper that says "Tickled Pink" by Susan K. Weckesser.

Around the heard on the tag I used ClearSnap Smooch paint in molasses, let it dry, then added little dots of Ranger Distress Stickles in Tattered Rose.  To the words "Tickled Pink" I added a couple of little dots of light pink puff paint to each letter at random.  Using your Stickles, puffy paints, and Smooch paints are an easy way to spice up tags and paper.

"Inspire" a mixed media piece by guest designer Tatiana

Hello there. I am honored to be a guest designer for one of my favorite people, Susan Weckesser. One of the reasons I applied to be a guest designer is because I love how inspirational all of Susan's products are. It is for this reason I decided to start my piece with Susan's stamp "inspire" and go from there. This word led me to a quote I just love by John Quincy Adams which says "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

Supplies:

• 12” x 12” canvas
• Susiebee Studios “Boquet” paper
• Susiebee Studios “Color Burst” paper
• Susiebee Studios “Live in Color” paper
• The Paper Company “Paisley Sunshine” paper
• Susan Weckesser & unity “Create your Day” stamps
• Susan Weckesser & unity “Painted Sentiments” stamps
• Ranger-Tim Holtz: Distress Paint-Black Soot
• Ranger-Tim Holtz: Distress Paint-Brushed Pewter
• Westcott: Scissor 6" Precision Titanium

Instructions:

1. Adhere “Paisley Sunshine” paper to canvas with Gel Medium.
2. Cut out sun circle and glue it onto the “Color Burst” paper.
3. Draw lines coming out of each sun ray that extend to edges of page.
4. Cut out every other sun ray and adhere the sun and rays to background.
5. Adhere a strip of “Boquet” paper to bottom of canvas as grass.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Stamp 5 birds onto black card-stock with Pewter Distress Paint.
7. Dab Black Distress Paint onto cloud stamp and press into raw canvas 3x.
8. Cut out all 5 birds without legs and clouds with Precision scissors.
9. Write out words onto white card-stock and cut them out in strips.
   
   
   
   
   
10. Stamp the word “inspire” onto background and add other words with paint.
11. Arange and then glue down birds, words and clouds with Gel Medium.
12. Embelish to your hearts desire with paint and ink, etc.

Altered spoon from the homefront . . .

 Hi everyone, Tracy here today with an altered spoon to share with you all.

Wanting to add a little something extra to some of my containers at home in my garden and at the allotment I grabbed a few supplies . . .

My favourite go to stamp set -

along with a few essentials 

Faber Castell Gel Medium

and lastly a little Raffia.

My favourite part . . . Getting Messy!

I started by applying a layer of Gel Medium to the spoon, leave it to dry or if you are impatient like me then blast it with a Heat Tool.

Next came a layer or two of Distress Paint in Picket Fence, smudging it around with my fingers!

Time to ink up the little house stamp with an Archival Ink Pad, no acrylic block needed as the spoon curves it`s easier to apply using your hand.

A little bit missing on the roof but I kinda like the rustic feel.

 Now the fun part, adding color with Distress Paints and Stains.

A little doodle dooo time adding birds, puffs of smoke from the chimney and scribbles . . .

I stamped one of the sentiments from the set, chopped it all up and fixed in place with a hot glue gun.

Next I stamped all over the spoon with a Clear Embossing pad, sprinkled with a little Cosmic Shimmer Embossing powder and set with my ever trusty Heat Tool, repeat the process once more.

 Love what embossing powder adds to a project and how alive the colors become.
At this stage you could use a clear varnish but I think the embossing powder should do just as well . . .
fingers and toes crossed!

Ooops, I almost forgot to mention that I applied Black Soot and Walnut Stain Distress Ink all around the edges of the spoon to shabby it up a little.

A quick look at how the spoon started life in my shed and the finished spoon.
The spoon is now at my allotment along with a few others in the wild flower section for all to see.
