I'm Box Altering & Canadian Scrapbooker has a Week-end Giveaway

altered box

So, what did I do today? Well, let's see, besides having a snowball fight and baking cookies with my kiddos that have had the week off, I decided to take a plain box that I found from Michael's and alter it. I had a great time getting all painty as I first coated it with acrylic paint. I then mod podged recycled pattern pieces all over it and used Tim Holtz's distressing ink on it to age it nicely. I used Glimmer Mist paints from Tattered Angels on my flowers too to give them a beautiful glazed look. altered box.4

'Give a 'Homemade' This Valentine's Day!

Forget me not card

I love making Valentine's Day cards…they make me feel happy inside! What is even better is you get to give it away and make someone else feel happy inside! ~

This card literally took me a couple of minutes to make. I used the awesome paper from Cosmo Cricket, fun paper from core'dinations, whimsical ribbon from Maya Road,  & some neat embellishments from Making Memories. I also used some handy dandy sand paper to distress the edges of the paper & a pencil crayon to add some wonderful color to my edges, which also aged the cards appearance. Fun stuff to do and SO EASY & QUICK! One final step before I glued my embellies on, is that I took some clear paper effect from DecoArt and I lightly covered the bulls eye in the center of the card. I did not worry about the air bubbles because I loved the aged effect those wonderful little bubbles created!Forget me not card 2

Don't you love how the sand paper roughs up the edges so nicely!?!Forget me not card 1

~ love the different colors that I got from using sandpaper on the paper from core'dinations and then I lightly used a pencil crayon on it. ***AWESOME!!!***

maya road ribbon

I used satin pleat edging from MAYA ROAD…..great stuff to work with!

CHA 2011 ~ The Adventures of Susan in the BIG city of Los Angeles

20110203_238 (2)

Here is a tale of my first CHA trip….Oh and what a trip was it!CHA 3

The Airplane ride  You have to remember that I have not travelled in 20 years….. so this was really new to me! To start my trip of with a BANG I had to take a small prop airplane from Medicine Hat to Calgary. However I was thrilled when I ended sitting by Rob Schneider (the comedian). I didn't know what to say to him, so I handed him my cameras and asked him if he wouldn't mind taking some pictures for me. He didn't mind and he really was a great guy, even if he couldn't take great pictures at the moment. Okay, the plane was bumpy and it was turning!

After numerous airplane rides…….oh, and hours, I made it to the great city of Los Angeles, in one piece and I never got lost!!!CHA 2

I truly felt like a country mouse in the middle of a great big city!20110203_253I was in the hotel Figueroa and I could not believe how cute and charming it was! Plus, I did not has to share the bathroom with anyone… BONUS!20110203_256 (2)

Night Life:

I am not much of a night life person , but I have to admit it was a blast in L.A.  !!! There is so much to see and to do and I really didn't ever feel nervous or afraid for my life!  It really was fantastic because there is always something to do… Check out the picture of L.A. Live below.

 So Cool!!!!

        Even though I didn't have much time to sit outside and enjoy the sun, or to enjoy my new favourite thing in the whole wide world…PALM TREES, because I was too busy with fantastic, productive meetings, L. A. will always hold a dear place in my heart now! I am so grateful that I went and for all the neat creative things I witnessed, and the awesome friends I met up with!CHA 8 (2)

And this was the finally 12 hours of my trip……waiting in a airport, drawing and doodling and thinking of all the creative things I am going to do this year!!!!

{Oh, and worrying about the mechanic that was called to fix the airplane……..What do they say? Oh ya, don't sweat the small stuff!}

I Love being a mommy and a wife…but I love being a designer. Therefore this year I am following my heart and I have decided to to design a paper line. I am so excited about the road ahead of me. I am going to go and finally have a chance to meet all the lovely people that i have been working with over the last few years. So the above picture is a sneak peek of my new collection!

 Sometimes life gets really hectic, so we have to make sure to take a little time to do sometime that is going to put a {SMILE} on our face!

That is what I did this morning! Things have been really hectic lately with family , work, and life, so with all the snow and cold that we got I decided to have some fun. Now, I know that I am not a professional ice sculpturer, but I had a blast putting this together and then taking some pictures. My husband and daughter Jessica made the ice cubes for me last night as I worked on some deadlines. As I worked on this in the front yard neighbours pasted and gave me me strange glimpses….it was almost -30 degrees here, so I think that they thought I was a little crazy, but that is okay! I just waved at them with a smile on my face and a song in my heart…..this is what I needed to do today to recharge my heart and minds batteries. Sometimes we need to do something fun just for us to relax and get ready to face the world again! Now I just have to thaw out my fingers and toes!

Have a great day!

How One Word Can Help

Fly over the moon dry brush1

The last week I has reading people wonderful blog posts and comments on how they where choosing 'One Little Word' to help them focus and create goals for 2011. I love all the wonderful words that people have been deciding on. Their wonderful goal our so thought provoking and incredible. It really is a true testimony to me what a wonderful culture this 'Art Culture' is. So with this, I have been trying to decide on one word that i would like to incorporate in my life this year. After tossing around some thoughts and ideals I thought hit me. A word so simple and obvious, yet beautiful and encouraging. The word that I finally settled on was:

[BELIEVE]

Believe that I can. Believe that I am loved and that I can love. Believe that anything is possibly and that I can make my dreams come true. Believe that through art and understanding anything is possible. Believe that 2011  is going to be a year to remember. Believe that it only takes one person to make a difference. Believe in myself.

                                                   Believe.

I hope that everyone knows this in their heart. We are all so important. It is just hard sometimes to BELIEVE in ourselves., I know…but we can!

It is going to be a great year this year and I look forward to getting to know you all a little more and meeting with you.

I also want to thank everyone who took part of the CHRISTMAS LOVE CAMPAIGN!!!! It was such a BIG success! Our winners were announced on our Face Book page. Thank-you all our wonderful sponsors and thank-you for caring and spreading some extra LOVE this past Christmas. {hugs}

I will be offering classes this year and there still times available, so if you or your store is interested feel free to contact me.
