A One Of A Kind Tag for A One Of A Kind Winter...

Happy, Happy Day Everyone!  Today I am sharing an oversized mixed media tag created for my second Susan Weckesser design team project for November.  Tag making is something I have not done a lot of in the past, but I am loving it because this year I realized that: a) you have a tag which can be used instead of a card; b) that a blingy tag is such a beautiful decoration, you can wrap your gift in brown paper and it still looks good and c) you can hang it on the Christmas tree as an ornament and a memory.  Seriously Christmas tags may be replacing my Christmas cards next year!

I created this tag for a special, extra Large Gift for someone wonderful, featuring my very favorite "One Of A Kind Winter" snowman stamp  from Susan Weckesser/Unity Stamps.  I Stamped the snowman onto a piece of cardboard that came with a stamp set I bought, because I loved the subtle embossed dots on it, and I colored the hat and scarf using my Zig clean color brush tip markers.

For the background I applied a thin layer of white gesso and I stamped the small house from Susan's Create Your Day Unity Stamp set onto a page of thin white paper from a second-hand medical book I bought for $2.  The paper in medical books or Bibles is wonderful for this technique, tissue paper thin and brilliantly white, it is strong enough to hold up to getting wet with Mod Podge and sprays and mediums. 

Some seed pearls for door knobs, a foam pop dot for the sun and of course the final step with everything I do, a layer of Rangers Stickles and Close To My Heart Liquid Glass finishes everything off.

So that's my tag for today.... I hope it inspires you to go off and create something that will "Warm 3 Winter Months" for someone!

"One Of A Kind Winter"

Warming Up Winter One Snowman At A Time...

Well here we are at the midway mark in November and just over four weeks away from Christmas!  Whooooosh... that's the sound of 2016 as it flies by at light speed! Grin  Today for my design team post here at the My Sweet Earth blog I am sharing these two lovely tags I created specifically to start a little glow in the heart of the person I am sending them to...

I am using Susan's One Of A Kind Winter stamp from Unity Stamps.  Susan created this wonderful snowman stamp a few years ago and it is still one of my very favorite stamps.  I enjoy creating something different with him every Christmas Season.

This year I stamped my image onto a piece of cardboard that came with something I bought... it had the most lovely embossed circles on it and I love the way my snowmen look after I colored them using my Zig Clean Color brush tip markers.

For the tag backgrounds I used gesso and pastes mixed media style and then added embossing powders which I melted over the tag to create texture...

But for this tag I stamped the house and sun from Susan's Create Your Day Unity Stamp set  - once on the tag and once on a dictionary page which I cut out and pasted to the background.

And of course the part I enjoyed the most was adding the embellishments and a thick layer of Rangers Stickles until those tags sparkled. These were fun to make and will be even more fun to put on a package and gift away.

My Little Boxes Full Of Happy - By Lynne Mizera

Hello and Happy Halloween everyone!  Today for my second mixed media project for the Creative Team I thought I would share this little idea that has been germinating in my brain for about two years now ... I am calling these My Little Boxes of Happy!

The size of an old-fashioned match box, the outside is already delightful... but when you slide back the cover a complete three-dimensional scene is revealed that just makes you smile... hence My Little Boxes of Happy

I used the Tim Holtz Matchbox die; Sizzix BigzL #659447 and Susan Weckesser's lovely paper to create my matchboxes.  Susan's paper worked like a dream because it is so much heavier than regular card stock.

The Susan K. Weckesser/Unity Stamp sets I used are the perfect size for creating these tiny 1.75"x2.25" diorama's which, when coloured in and covered in Ranger's Stickles and Close To My Heart's Liquid Glass, look like wee jewels.  A delightful little surprise and so gift-worthy, don't you think?

A Fun Mixed Media Tag To Make You Smile by Lynne Mizera

Hello Everyone... Lynne Mizera here today wishing you a Happy Fall Day! And I just want to share, "I LOVE FALL!"  The bright, sunny days and the cool, crisp air just makes me Happy.  So when I sat down today to create something "Mixed Media" for my Susan Weckesser creative team post this tag is what appeared... Doesn't it just make you smile?

I used Magenta Nuance pigment powders to create the background and to paint up the Susan K. Weckesser Tumbleweed Houses stamps, of course I added Ranger Stickles and Liquid Pearls until the entire tag just sparkled.  I think this tag would be just lovely on a birthday present instead of a card.

You can see all the steps in my process over at My Blog, where I have been up to my eyebrows in all things Mixed Media this month... (No Really!  I have paint in my eyebrows... Grin)  And I hope I helped to inspire you to try something painty and inky today.

Home Is Where You Plant Your Flower Seeds - A Special Card By Lynne Mizera

Happy Day Peeps!  Lynne here with my second project this month for the Susan K. Weckesser Creative Team.  Today I am sharing this wonderful card I created for a family member who has just moved into their life long dream of owning a home on an acreage in the Rocky Mountians of Alberta... Swoon!

Using the What's Up Gnomey Unity Stamp set and a sheet of Susan's Bouquet card stock I stamped, colored, fussy cut and assembled this very special card in record time!

I love creating with the Mr. Gnomey stamp set because he comes with so many accessories that it is like playing paper dolls with a gnome...

And there is something about that saying which just resonates with me... because for me Home really IS all about "Where You Plant Your Flower Seeds."

I used my Copic markers to color in my stamped images and of course some Ranger's Stickles and Liquid Pearls to add interest and sparkle.

And I popped Mr. Gnomey off the page using foam pop dots so that he was the centre piece... but then I did something just a wee bit different which turned this card into a Gift....

I created wee packages of flower seeds from my own garden this summer and taped them to the inside of the card. Now my family members can start their own garden next year using some of the seeds from our garden... How SWEET is that?!

What's Up Gnomey

She Faced the World With A Smile - A Card By Lynne Mizera

Happy September 1st to all you wonderful and creative followers. September? Now how did that happen?  I know I am not the only one who has been broadsided by just how fast the year 2016 is flying by, but HOW did it get to be September already?!  Today I am honoured to be the Susan K. Weckesser creative team member here at the My Sweet Earth blog who is introducing our September theme of "You Are My Friend". 

All of September the creative team will be showcasing cards about friendship, family and love, because:

 Here is the card I created:

I had so much fun creating this card using Susan's "Love Ya Whole Bunches" stamp set... and here is how I did it!

I stamped my image three times using Ranger Archival waterproof ink.  I always give myself three images so that way I feel like have lots of room for color choices and any little mistakes. I used my Angora watercolors and a water brush to fill in the color...

And then I went back in with my gel pens to add details to her eyes, dress and flower and I used colored pencils to give her hair some texture.

Here she is really close Close-up so you can see all the wonderful details... 

The sun and cloud and bird are from Susan's "Create Your Day" Unity stamp set and the wonderful flowers by her feet (which I filled in with gel pens and stickles) are from the Unity Stamp set "Journal Doodles With A Heart". A bit of fibre, some foam pop dots and few more gel pen details and it was done!

I am taking the time this month to make a few cards for those people who make my life richer and then I am making sure they know that!  Because even though I know I think of them often I want to make sure that they know how much they bring to my world. Alfred Tennyson said it so beautifully when he wrote:

 "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you... I could walk through my garden forever."

Hello Everyone - Lynne here today to share another of my art journal pages with you.  This month Susan Weckesser encouraged us to see our world with new eyes with a focus on our own backyards and our gardens... which resonated with me on such a deep level as I am spending the first year in our new home, one that we hope to be in until we are ready to move into assisted living (in about 30 years - we Hope!).  So here is the two-page spread I created:

The inspiration for this came from the quote I used which really did say it perfectly for me... 

I have been fortunate to have been able to travel to many wonderful places in our beautiful world, making Art and friends along the way, but at the end of each "journey nto the World" I Always Come Home.

And to me My Home is still the place I love the most in this World!
