Spring Means Getting COLORFUL with Mixed Media

007

I LOVE Spring! The birds singing, the fresh air and the wonderful bright new colors popping up everywhere! So, to celebrate I couldn’t resist but to make a canvas that was filled with LAYERS and different colors.

005

I started my canvas by using acrylic paint to create my background.

014

I then worked on my tree. I had so much fun building this up. I first used acrylic paint and then I put a layer od Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint over it. When the crack was not quite dry I worked in pearlescent teal and orange based acrylic paint to create  bark like texture. I then melted on coat of bee wax mixed with a little of Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink and rub some tea stained Mica fragments from Stampendous into the edge of the canvas.

I tore out a ‘birdie’ shaped image from a old book page and used Helmar’s decoupage and paste to put it on the canvas. Using Shimmerz paints I colored in my little guy. Isn’t he cute!

I LOVE my little hearts!!! I resined them with Susan Lenart Kazmer’s Ice Resin. I used my Susan K. Weckesser  Inc. co-branded Unity Stamp company : a little grunge love - hearts and stamped onto some old paper. I really like how Ice Resin effect the appearance of the paper.

I also stamped my Susan K. Weckesser Inc. stamp: SMILE, from the set Insta-cute onto some tissue paper and then decoupaged it onto the canvas.

Now I am already for spring…..as long as we don’t have anymore surprise snow storms! *grin*

Paint yourself some spring today, it will put a smile on your face for sure!

Home...

Hi! Jennifer here this lovely Monday morning..hope everyone is doing great!  Just looking back at all the great post and items the Susan K Weckessar DT have been making they are all so wonderful!  Last night I got my scrap on and gathered a few items together...

A few pieces of paper from Susan, an old road atlas, a bit of washi tape, twine, a few embellies, a wooden tray and a wooden home sign that I got from M's craft store.

First I took two kinds of washi tape and put it around the edge of the tray.  I used a black polka dot on the inside and a ruler one on the outside.  I mitered the corners by pushing the tap in and cutting it with a mat knife.

Next I cut a house and two flowers from the Susan K Weckesser paper and put pop dots on the back of them.  I also cut out some letters from her Live Love Create paper as well.

I also tore out a map from the Atlas.  I chose one that showed the cities that I have lived in since I was born or places where I spend a lot of time and consider them home.  I pasted the map in the back of the tray using a tape runner.

I layered all the elements on top of the map including; the house, flowers, letters and "home" wooden sign.

To the map I also added red dots with pop dots (craftwork card candi) and strung twine between them.

The map shows:

Toronto is where I was born
Peterborough is where I lived when I was growing up
Brooklin is where I live now
Ottawa is where my family lives and where we will retire

Here are a few close ups of the finished tray..

The dots and twine linking the places....

The details around the house.....

The hearts coming out from the chimney....

I have enjoyed this week playing with the great paper and documenting my "homes" over the years!  I hope that you will take some time and make something that documents those places you consider being you home or homes!

Have fun this week, take care and HUGS from me!

Jennifer

I Have Chosen to be Happy

Hello friends. JJ here today, to share an art journal page with you - and show off a stamp that is not just for your instagram pictures.  :)

I started off with some paint and stencils, then I added some texture with the "Splatter it" stamp.

Then I fussy cut some clouds from Susan's papers, and a few hearts, and collaged them to the page.

I stamped the frame from the "Insta-cute" stamp set, on the background and on one of the papers, which I collaged to the page as well. Repeating a stamp on both the background and the foreground helps make the elements tie together.   I finished up with a little bit of doodling and shading.

Supplies:
Live in Color patterned papers
Insta-cute stamp set
Splatter it stamp

Thank you for visiting!

Feeling Blue . . .

Hi everyone, it`s Tracy here with a project that you can all create to chase away even the bluest day . . . plus your hands will end up looking like the prettiest rainbows.

So what is it?
It`s my touchy, feelly, feel good book and it started it`s journey with a bit of this . . .
Yep, Susan K Weckesser`s beautiful paper line along with brown cardboard from packaging.
I took 2 sheets of Live, Love, Create, cut out the house and used it as a stencil to cut more houses from the papers and packaging. From the second sheet an extra door and window so that they would pop!
But before things go . . . POP . . . I just had to add a few scribbles with a fine black liner pen and some sparkle with a little Pink Paislee Pixee glitter.
After a splodge of paint, a spritz of Smooch and Maya Road mists, a few scraps of old book pages,Splatters and smudges of Tim Holtz distress ink pads and stains,a good dose of Cosmic Shimmer,a smattering of clear embossing powder, Unity Stamps co branded with Susan K Weckesser and some odds and ends thrown in for good measure . . . this is how it looks inside!
 { Pssssst it makes my heart sing with joy. }
Yep I think we all have those days, don`t we?
You have the choice to do something about it and on those days I head on out to my shed and get colourful with art.
Not one to waste things, you know along the bottom of a 12x12 scrap paper you have the paper title and so on...well that is where the title Live in Color came from.
So much fun was had stamping with
In - Circle - Me and a little bit of washi on this little house along with the words
Live, Love, Create from the Live in color tag page.
Isn`t that little house from Create Your Day Stamp set the cutest thing?
The old tag from a purchase on the side reads . . .
No better time spent
Than
Time spent with the one`s you love most . . . Family!!
Home is where you hang your HEART!
What key do each and everyone of us hold?
We hold the key to our own Happiness . . . No matter what is going on in our lives, make time to do something that makes you smile and laugh out loud!
 { even singing out loud and doing a mad dance can work . . . honest!}

When I am having a blue day, Alex drags me to the allotment and thank goodness . . . once through the gate, tootling around getting all mucky,
{ Seriously I am a dirt magnet }
how time flies and before I know it I am humming along to whatever song runs through my head and feeling HAPPY with the world.
My garden would be nothing without all off the above!
A little bit washi, a quote from create your day, a smattering of seeds sunk in UTEE in an old bottle cap finished these two up nicely.
Don`t go through life, grow through life
This man knows me so well and I love him for it!
He saved a bag of watches from going in a skip and gifted them to me . . .bliss!
Lastly the back cover.
Whew, if you are still here . . . THANK YOU . . . and sorry for the looong post today!
I hope you enjoyed seeing my touchy, feely, feel good book.
Till next time

Onion Peels Can be Made into BUTTERFLIES

Ice Resin Onion Butterfly 15

What started as a wonderful fun project using ICE Resin® and what people would call ‘kitchen waste’, an onion peel, turned into a fun and magical picture opp. with my 15 year old daughter, Jessica. I had to share it with you, because it truly made my heart fill with happiness today! This is how it all happened…

Ice Resin Onion Butterfly 2

I had made a necklace out of a red onion peel when I was experimenting with ICE Resin®. I always save things from the garden like flowers, seeds, grasses, wasp nests, peels, etc., for my artwork. So when I received  ICE Resin® a while ago a was anxious to see just what I could do with it. Lets just say that is is VERY addicting!!! (In a GOOD way! HA!) Tomorrow if you go to Helmars Blog I will be on there and I use ICE Resin® in another way! Told you…I am ADDICTED!

Anyway…. I got my necklace out, and my kiddos are home this week, so I thought why not have my youngest model this for me. Well, it turned into one giant pillow fight and giggle time! It took a lot more time then I wanted it too…. but you know what? We had fun! We just were being silly!!! Plus, I got some really neat photographs like the one above. BONUS! Sometimes, we just have to take time to LAUGH, be SILLY, and don’t worry about what other people think about us, because when it comes done to it. It doesn’t matter. What matters is your HEALTH, your HAPPINESS, your FAMILY, and your SMILE.

DON’T EVER LOSE YOUR SMILE! Because your smile is SO beautiful! It makes you…YOU!  Besides, if people really, really like you, they will understand no matter what you are going through and they will always be there for you…. NO MATTER WHAT!

Onions peels CAN be made into Butterflies!

Take a LOOK!

Be You Canvas

Hi there Susan Weckesser fans, Einat Kessler here with a new project!

This canvas is all about inspiring you to be yourselves and to live life in full, that means in color! Don't hide in the darkness of your troubles or thoughts, embrace color and light up your life!

I had a lot of fun creating this canvas. I started with some tissue papers, Gesso and a lot of misting. Then I added some stamps and texture.

I stamped three images ans created a "process" of transformation by adding more details to each image. With the details on the images came details and colors on the background. The title also starts kind of bland but has a colorful finish.

I hope I inspired you a little!

Have fun creating!
Einat
