Home Sweet Crazy Cake

I was trying to come up with this second project  and whenever I would think of the theme "Home Sweet Home", I always smiled as I thought of my mother. She has been gone over 20 years but is in my heart everyday. My mother worked in a factory her whole adult life, making dresses. She also did this at home, sewing our clothes and even making us matching outfits. A lime green pleated dress comes to mind and I think that picture will stay hidden !! But at the time, I thought it was the best dress ever !! My mother also loved to bake and made many amazing desserts. My father's family was Russian and we spent many an afternoon during the holidays making Nut Roll and Kolachy from my Baba's recipes. I loved to help in the kitchen and was especially good at licking the beaters when my mom was finished mixing batters and cookie dough.  One of my favorite recipes of hers was for "Crazy Cake" and I still have the recipe that she wrote out.. That was the basis for this card.

I first used Colorbox Color Pop Archival Dye Ink in Mystery  to stamp Susan's image "Motherhood is a Verb". I think my mom had that same apron !! I applied some Colorbox Color Pop Premium Dye Ink in Kiss to an acrylic block and used a waterbrush to color in the apron.I placed several large sequins to the Left side of the stamped image and 3 Prima flowers at the bottom Right corner. For a vintage look, I applied Cocoa ink from the Colorbox Color Pop Mini collection to an acrylic block and used a blending tool to apply it to a white doily.  The recipe for Crazy Cake on the card is a copy of the original recipe that my mom wrote approximately 50 years ago. It had been folded up and placed in her recipe box that I have pictured at the bottom of this post. Sewing and button themed washi was placed on the Left side of the card and then a row of pale gold glitter washi. Three vintage buttons at the top of the card are the perfect touch.  The stamped image was popped up with dimensionals and then adhered to the doily. I used Atyou Spica Glitter pens in Black and Red for a sparkly touch on her shoes, the stripes on the apron and her hair. My Go-to adhesive for  everything from adhering the recipe to the doily was Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue.

I had a lovely trip down memory lane making this card. I am so glad that I kept my mother's recipe box after all these years. I can remember how excited I would feel when she would get it down out of the cupboard at the beginning of a day of baking.
