the EARTH

Hello everyone.
DT MIYAKE here.

This is my last post.
Six-month in fantastic Susan K. DT
I was happy to share Susan K. products and inspiration.
It was the time of my life.

4.22 EARTH DAY

At this moment.
We are destroying the environment.
Easy thing to destroy the environment.
But It is difficult to protect the environment.

I would like to offer you a two kinds.
1. Recycling ideas
2. When you are working to minimize waste.

We inherited nature from God and ancestors.
Now turn pass on to posterity.

April 25 to 28
I went on a trip to Jeju Island.
Jeju Island is a volcanic island created by the explosion.
It is the most beautiful island in South Korea.
and, be designated as World Heritage by the UNESCO.

Jeju to retain the mystery of the beginning.
I thought that was where the Earth.

Yang Bang Ean - Prince of Jeju

I'll look around the four corners of the EARTH.
all the millions of different life forms on the planet today.

When in Doubt - Throw it OUT!

Hello everyone... it's a very tired and sweaty Lynne here today - stopping right in the middle of my move to get this blog post done for my last post this term on the Susan K. Weckesser Design Team! As you all know, we are moving off our acreage of thirteen years and into a smaller house, and the experience has made me realize that I keep everything.  And that is because when other people see garbage I see potential and the possibilities.  But over the past 60 days I have had to get rid of, give away, and THROW away a lot of stuff.

Like a pile of coffee-mate tins that I have been saving (hoarding?) for years because I couldn't bare to throw away something so solid, so well-made - and I knew there was something I could do with them - but I did throw them all away except one - and here it is: a Garbage Tin to sit on top of my new workspace (which I couldn't even label it as "garbage" but had to labeled as "My Leftovers") and which will be a daily reminder for me that "When in Doubt, THROW IT OUT! (Big Giant Smile)

I hope you enjoyed my little project which uses only Susan's Live in Color paper line, mod podge, ink and stickles!)  And I hope you enjoyed ME this term... Thanks for popping by today and do keep on checking in to see what the other design team members are up to!

An April layout.

Well this is my last post as a Designer for Susan Weckesser and I've had a wonderful time here. She and the team have been the most patient, helpful, friendly and generous people you'd ever want to meet and the next team will be very lucky indeed.

It's time for me to move on but before I do I'm showing a layout for April made using Susan's Live in Color paper as a background and from the Happy Go Lucky paper line by Fancy Pants for the photo layers and embellishments.

It covers all the things I love, mixed media, colour, texture and fun so is a good way to go out.

Thank you Susan for having me it's been absolutely wonderful.

Live in Color Birdhouse

Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today and I am thrilled to be the guest designer this month for Susan K. Weckesser.   When I first saw Susan's papers and stamps, I fell in love with them and knew I wanted to design with them.

I found this wood birdhouse and knew it would be perfect for the Live in Color Collection.

These papers are wonderful with their whimsical look and soft color palette.  I used different papers for each side of the birdhouse, cutting them slightly smaller than the birdhouse because I wanted the edges of the birdhouse to show.

Each paper was inked with ColorBox Chalk Ink in Harvest before adhering to the birdhouse.

I used Mod Podge as the adhesive and since the papers are heavy stock, they adhered to the wood smoothly, with no wrinkles.

For the front and back roof lines of the birdhouse, I die cut several Spellbinders ovals and cut them in half.  Each was then inked and  added to the roof creating an over-hang.

The overhang helped covered the areas where the paper was a little short since the birdhouse is about 14" high at the point.

The roof shingles were created from assorted papers using Spellbinders oval dies, inked with Harvest Chalk Ink and then adhered in layers to the roof.    I spritzed some water on the shingles to make them more realistic.

The birds are from the stamp set -  at Ground Level.  There were stamped in ColorBox Archival Ink in Mudslide, fussy cut, and placed atop some moss which I put inside the birdhouse.

This was an amazing project to create made that much better by the wonderful papers I was able to use.

Thank you to Susan K. Weckesser, Inc. for giving me the opportunity to be a guest designer this month.  And thank you for stopping by today.

Time to say Goodbye

Hello dear friends, Einat Kessler here with a farewell post. After one and a half years in this amazing DT it's time to say goodbye! I feel so blessed to have been a part of this talented group and work with Susan Weckesser's beautiful papers and stamps. It has been an amazing journey that has taught me so much!

Here are some of my favorite creations through these months each and everyone of them close to my heart and made with so much love.

One of my highlights in this DT adventure is teaching a workshop with Susan in the CHA 2014 show. It was so important to me to learn from such an experienced and smart lady who was so generous and supportive! This was the project that I taught.

I want to thank Susan and Cheryl and all the DT members for a wonderful time, support and love. I wish you all successes, happiness and a lot of creativity. I also want to thank all of you blog readers for your comments and love. It was an inspiring, fun and creative term.

Love you all
Have fun creating!

Farewell...Thanks for all the Memories

Hello Creative Lovelies.

It's Keri here on The Sweet Life Blog...for the last time. {single tear}

More on that later...on to my PROJECT!!

I couldn't finish my term with Susan without a sentimental farewell...

This little piece is a jumble of my favorite Susan K Weckesser Stamps from Unity Stamp Company along with a lot of mixed media fun.

Here's a breakdown of a few steps:

My background started with Susan's "Splatter It" stamp and Distress Ink in Pickled Raspberry on a small canvas. I then took some yellow and teal Tattered Angels Baseboard to add some color.

(I forgot to take a picture of this part.) I then laid a piece of lace over the top and lightly spritzed through it with a dark black Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and layered a few pieces of colored drywall tape on my canvas.

To add some texture and shimmer, I took the puchinello style stamp from Susan's "A Little Bit of Washi", stamped it with Tim Holtz Embossing Ink and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) in gold.

To make my silver dots, I just used my finger tip to stamp with embossing ink and used silver UTEE. My circles were made by dipping the bottom of my Tattered Angels Glaze bottle in some Tattered Angels baseboard that I had sprayed on my non-stick mat and stamping it on my canvas.

To Make your textured heart, follow these 4 easy steps (this is one of my FAVE techniques!)

(1) I started by painting my chipboard heart white. (It had a pattern on it.)
(2) Next, I smooshed my heart into my embossing ink and added a layer of UTEE. Heat to melt.
(3) Let it cool and repeat. I used silver the first time and bronze the second. (Depending on how detailed your stamp is, you might want to repeat a third time.)
(4) While your final layer of UTEE is still hot and liquidy, tap your stamp into an ink color of your choice, place your stamp on top of your piece and lightly press down. I used Susan's "In Circle Me" Stamp. Don't use too much pressure or your stamp will slide. Lift it off and voila! A yummy textured embellishment.

Here is a close-up...you can see the two toned colors better:

So there you go.

My final project for Susan.

She and I did the math and between being a guest designer and design team, she and I have been together for the last year and I have loved every minute of it.

Susan, Cheryl and the whole team are truly some of the most genuine and supportive people I have ever had the privilege of meeting in the industry.

I will greatly miss typing these little blog posts to you all twice a month. I hope I have inspired your to create some thing new and maybe challenged you to step out of your comfort zones...even just a little bit.

As I always say...and I will say one last time...Make your art a choice...not an after thought.

XOXO,
KERI
